Season's Greetings and Update on 2023 Submissions
Posted by Ernesto Priego on 2023-12-21

What a year it's been. It's been busy and exciting. Under normal circumstances we would have a new volume out by now. (Then again, what are 'normal' circumstances?). Alas, we don't. Yet. But we will, soon.

Authors, reviewers and the editorial team worked very hard to try to get this year's submissions ready for publication before the end of 2023. Due to several factors (the number of simultaneous submissions and the varying degrees of complexity of each submission, response times and workload of both authors and editorial team) it seems most likely we will be publishing the new volume during January 2024.

Most submissions are either finishing copyediting processes or undergoing typesetting and galley proofing.

The upcoming volume is looking fantastic. It will include research articles and book reviews by a diverse and international cohort of authors, including Sebastian Konefal, Don Unger, Julia Round, Alexadra Alberda, Stephanie Garcia, Ryan L. Johnson, Anna Marta Marini, Elizabeth Allyn Woock, Zuzana Fonioková, Diego Labra, and Jordi Giner.

A reminder that authors with ongoing submissions can see in which stage their paper is at any given time by logging into your account at https://www.comicsgrid.com/ and selecting the submission under consideration.

We'd also like to remind you of our new call for submissions for a Comics Grid Special Collection on Graphic Biographical fiction. Full info at https://www.comicsgrid.com/news/661/.

A negative side of a thorough peer review and editorial workflow, with different steps and stages and different actors involved, is that the publishing process gets unduly extended. The positive side is what counts though: this thorough process allows us to do our best to maintain high quality standards, and to help authors publish the best possible version of their work, in both form and content. We really appreciate everyone's patience, understanding, and cooperation in achieving this goal.

If any authors have any urgent technical queries during the Friday 22nd December 2023 - January 3rd 2024 period, please contact support@janeway.freshdesk.com so that they can tend to your issue as soon as they can (please mention the Comics Grid). Comics Grid editorial queries and new submissions will be picked up from 3rd January 2024 onwards.

For this coming holiday, we hope everyone takes some much-needed time off. Let us editors worry about the metatada implications!

We can't wait to release the new volume. We'll keep you updated. In the meanwhile, we'd like to wish you all a very happy holiday period.

Ernesto, on behalf of the editorial team

PS. This text was produced in an office that processes other texts- some typos may have remained. ;-)
